Ledger Nano X vs Nano S Plus for Beginners: Choose Your Workflow

The choice between Ledger Nano X and Nano S Plus starts with where you plan to sign transactions. A lower purchase price is useful only when the device supports your phone or computer and the assets you intend to manage. Compare the complete workflow before choosing.
Start with your phone or computer
Ledger describes Nano S Plus as a wired device for supported desktop computers and Android devices; it does not support iOS. Nano X adds Bluetooth connectivity and supports a mobile workflow, including supported iOS devices. Check the current manufacturer requirements for your exact operating system and wallet application before ordering. A connector adapter does not establish software compatibility.
Choose between wired simplicity and mobile convenience
A buyer who signs at a desk on a compatible computer may prefer the straightforward wired Nano S Plus setup. Someone who needs a supported phone connection away from a computer has a different requirement. Think through the cable, phone and device you would actually carry. Bluetooth is a connectivity feature, not a reason to skip transaction review or trust an unfamiliar request.
Check your assets independently
Device compatibility does not mean every asset is supported through the same application. Verify each coin or token, its exact network and any required third-party wallet integration. A familiar ticker can refer to assets on different chains. Use the manufacturer’s current asset documentation, and avoid assuming that an exchange listing proves a hardware-wallet workflow is supported.
Compare the checkout total and support terms
Check the exact model, included accessories, delivery destination, taxes and return policy. Prices and promotions change, so this guide does not promise a particular discount. Buy through a verified manufacturer route and keep your order confirmation. Avoid secondhand devices that arrive with a supplied recovery phrase or instructions to use an existing wallet.
A practical beginner example
A first-time buyer who owns an iPhone and wants to sign using that phone should not buy Nano S Plus expecting a cable to enable it. A buyer who owns the same phone but is content to sign from a supported computer can still consider a wired device. These people have different needs even though they own the same phone.
Does the more expensive device remove self-custody risks?
No. Either choice requires careful setup, protection of recovery information and transaction review. Hardware features do not remove phishing, address mistakes or the consequences of approving a malicious transaction. Never share a recovery phrase with support or enter it into a website form.
